Economy

The basic economy index is the amount of money you have. You get money by selling grain and fish. Your citizens sow land and catch fish, every turn. For sowing and fishing, you need citizens, so it’s a bad move to turn all into scientists and soldiers. You need to feed soldiers and scientists so that they wouldn’t starve. Naturally, you can only sow the area you already have.

If an enemy attacks you and captures your land, you will lose part of your harvest. So, you need to defend your borders. However, you won’t capture any grain if you conquer somebody else-s territory (the same applies to computer opponents). When battles are held on wheat fields, not much wheat survives…
Money is the way to prosperity. IF you have money, you can train scientists, recruit soldiers, build ship and hire generals.
Scientists serve for developing science. Without this victory is impossible. Training one scientist costs $100. Afterwards, each scientist requires some money as wages.
Soldiers in the game serve for military action, defending your country and capturing opponents’ territory. Soldiers must be commanded by a general. Recruiting one soldier costs $100. Afterwards soldiers, just like scientists, need money as wages.
Ships in the game serve for military action on sea. Ships must be commanded by an admiral. Recruiting one ship costs $1500. Afterwards ships, just like scientists and soldiers, need money, the only difference is that they are more expensive.
Scientists and soldiers come from transforming citizens. 1 ship requires 10 sailors. Increasing the number of scientists, ships and soldiers you are decreasing your peasant population, so you have to be careful in order not to bring you country to a financial crisis.
